Overview
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The MEP Design course spans twelve weeks, offering a comprehensive study of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems design and integration in building projects. Students will begin by setting up their design environments and gaining an understanding of MEP systems and their critical roles in building functionality.
The course starts with an introduction to MEP fundamentals, including the principles of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Students will learn to design efficient HVAC systems, electrical layouts, and plumbing infrastructures, ensuring that all systems meet regulatory standards and operational requirements.
As the course progresses, students will focus on advanced MEP design techniques, including system load calculations, energy efficiency considerations, and integration with other building systems. They will gain skills in performing detailed load analysis, selecting appropriate equipment, and optimizing system performance for energy efficiency and sustainability.
In the following weeks, students will delve into MEP coordination and integration. This includes learning how to integrate MEP systems with architectural and structural components, resolve conflicts through clash detection, and ensure seamless operation across all building systems. Students will use industry-standard tools to simulate system interactions and troubleshoot design issues.
Midway through the course, students will explore MEP system installation, testing, and maintenance procedures. They will practice preparing installation documents, conducting system tests to ensure proper operation, and implementing maintenance plans to ensure long-term system reliability.
Towards the end, the course covers advanced topics such as smart building technologies and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for MEP design. Students will learn how to integrate IoT devices for smart building applications, leverage BIM for enhanced design accuracy, and use data analytics for optimizing system performance.
The course concludes with a capstone project where students will design, develop, and present a comprehensive MEP system for a building project. This project will incorporate all the learned techniques and best practices, demonstrating their ability to create and manage complex MEP designs.
